Historical Context Before the Party's Founding
Before 1930, Vietnam was under French colonial rule and a puppet feudal regime. Many patriotic movements arose but all failed due to the lack of a correct path and a unified leadership organization. In this context, Nguyen Ai Quoc, on his journey to find a way to save the country, approached Marxism-Leninism and recognized it as the only path to national liberation.
From November 1924 to May 1927, he was active in Guangzhou (China). With the help of the Chinese Communist Party, he established the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth League and opened political training classes for Vietnamese youth. These activities spread Marxism-Leninism into the country, preparing politically, ideologically, organizationally, and in terms of personnel for the birth of a revolutionary party.
By late 1929, three communist organizations had emerged in three regions: the Indochinese Communist Party, the Annam Communist Party, and the Indochinese Communist League. The parallel existence of these three organizations created an urgent need to unify into a single party to avoid dispersing forces.
The Unification Conference on February 3, 1930
Assigned by the Comintern, Nguyen Ai Quoc convened a meeting in Kowloon, Hong Kong (China) on February 3, 1930. The conference unified the three communist organizations into one party named the Communist Party of Vietnam. This event was a turning point in Vietnamese history.
At the conference, he presented important documents such as the Brief Political Platform, Brief Strategy, and Brief Charter, defining the Vietnamese revolutionary path. The Party's birth marked the vanguard of the working class and the nation.
After the conference, the Communist Party of Vietnam quickly became the guiding flag for the revolutionary movement nationwide. This event ended the prolonged crisis in the path to national salvation from the late 19th to early 20th century.
Historical Significance of February 3, 1930
The birth of the Communist Party of Vietnam was a major turning point. Under the Party's leadership, the people achieved great feats in the 20th century, including the 1945 August Revolution, the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and victories in the resistance wars against France and the US.
Since 1975, Vietnam entered a new era of national unification and renewal. Over five decades, Vietnam has achieved great accomplishments, transforming from a poor, war-torn country into a developing middle-income nation. The economy in 2023 was 96 times larger than in 1986, ranking among the world's top 40 economies.
Significance of the Founding Anniversary Today
February 3 annually is the day for the entire Party and people to celebrate the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam. It is an occasion to review the Party's glorious tradition and remember the contributions of President Ho Chi Minh and revolutionary predecessors.
The 95 years of practice have proven that the Party's correct leadership is the leading factor determining all victories. The most important factor for the Party to maintain its leadership role is always adhering to its ideals and goals, relying on the people, and serving the people wholeheartedly.
2025 is an important year with major political events, leading to the 14th National Party Congress, opening a new era of national rise. The vision is to achieve the strategic goals of the Two 100-year Targets: by 2030 (100 years of the Party), Vietnam becomes a developing country with modern industry and high middle income; by 2045 (100 years of the nation), it becomes a developed, high-income country following a socialist orientation.
