Born Phan Thị Mỹ Tâm on 16 January 1981 in Đà Nẵng, with family roots in Điện Bàn, Quảng Nam, Mỹ Tâm began ballet training as a child before studying guitar and organ. She trained in vocal performance at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, signed with Vafaco Record in 1999, and released her debut album "Mãi yêu" (Endless Love) in 2001.
Breakthrough and Rise
The song "Tóc nâu môi trầm" and the album "Mãi yêu" (2001) brought her widespread recognition. In 2002, her single "Cây đàn sinh viên" (The Student's Guitar) became an anthem among Vietnamese university students. Her third album, "Yesterday & Now" (2003), featuring hits "Ước gì" and "Họa mi tóc nâu," set Vietnamese record-sales milestones and cemented her status as a leading pop artist. In 2008 she founded the MT Foundation charity and later established her own company, MT Entertainment.
