Early Life and Career Beginnings
Trấn Thành, born Huỳnh Trấn Thành on February 5, 1987, in Ho Chi Minh City, first gained national attention after placing third in a televised hosting competition in 2006. This launched a career spanning multiple areas of entertainment: television hosting, stand-up comedy, film acting, screenwriting, and directing.
Hosting and Acting Career
Over more than a decade, Trấn Thành became one of Vietnamese television's most sought-after hosts, fronting numerous game shows and variety programs. He also built a reputation in comedy through live shows and comedic sketches, while taking on notable film roles, including one that earned him the Golden Lotus Award (Bông Sen Vàng) for Best Supporting Actor at the 2019 Vietnam Film Festival.
Becoming Vietnam's Top Box-Office Director
Starting in 2021, Trấn Thành moved into directing and quickly became a guaranteed box-office draw. His directorial debut, "Bố già" (Dad, I'm Sorry, 2021), became the first Vietnamese film to reach 400 billion VND in revenue. Two years later, "Nhà bà Nữ" (The House of No Man, 2023) broke that record with more than 430 billion VND. In 2024, "Mai" set a new record for Vietnamese cinema with total box-office revenue exceeding 551 billion VND, becoming the first Vietnamese film to surpass the 550-billion-VND mark. He went on to direct "Bộ tứ báo thủ" (2025) and "Thỏ ơi!!" (2026).
Personal Life
Trấn Thành married singer and actress Hari Won on December 25, 2016, in Ho Chi Minh City, after roughly a year of publicly dating. The couple is among the most closely followed celebrity families in Vietnam.
