Education and early career

He graduated as a Marine Engineer from Vietnam Maritime University. After graduation, he worked at Saigon Shipping Company for 8 years, from 1988 to 1996. This period helped him accumulate management and operational experience in a corporate environment.

Business career

From 1996, Mr Đặng Thành Tâm began holding leadership positions at many companies, notably the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director at Kinh Bac City Development Company, Tan Tao Investment and Industry Company, and Saigon Telecommunications Technology Company. Under his leadership, KBC became one of the leading enterprises in the field of industrial park and urban area development in Vietnam.

In 2007, when Kinh Bac City Development Company and Tan Tao Investment and Industry Company were listed on the stock exchange, he quickly became the richest person in Vietnam on the stock exchange. In the following three years (2008, 2009, 2010), he held third position in the list of the richest people in Vietnam.

He also actively participated in economic integration activities, having been a member of the APEC Business Advisory Council, Chairman of the Vietnam-Japan Business Forum, a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and a consulting member of the World Economic Forum.

Other activities

Besides business, he also held positions such as Delegate of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for the 2004-2009 term, Delegate of the Bình Chánh District People's Council term VIII, and National Assembly Delegate term XIII (2011-2016). He is the first non-state businessman to receive the First Class Labor Medal from the President, along with many commendations from the Prime Minister and the city People's Committee.

Recent projects and activities

In recent years, KBC has continued to expand with many large projects such as Que Vo Industrial Park expansion 2 in Bắc Ninh, Trang Cat Urban and Service Area in Hải Phòng, and Song Hau 2 Industrial Park in Hậu Giang. His family also has involvement in corporate governance as his son and daughter have been appointed or nominated to leadership positions at KBC.
