Nguyễn Phương Hằng (birth name Nguyễn Thị Thanh Tuyền) was born on January 26, 1971 in Long Xuyên, An Giang province. She is CEO and Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Đại Nam Corporation, a multi-sector conglomerate (real estate, tourism, manufacturing) founded by her husband, Huỳnh Uy Dũng. The company's best-known project is the roughly 450-hectare Đại Nam tourist resort in Bình Dương province, under development since 1999. She and her husband married in 2010.

In 2015, she co-founded the Hằng Hữu Charitable Fund, personally involved in a number of disaster-relief and medical-support campaigns with substantial contributions prior to 2021.

The 2021 livestream controversy and criminal case

Starting in early 2021, Nguyễn Phương Hằng began a series of public livestreams accusing numerous entertainers, celebrities, and journalists, beginning with allegations against Võ Hoàng Yên in March 2021 over the handling of charity funds, later expanding to other entertainment-industry figures. Her livestreams drew very large audiences but also fueled prolonged public controversy and cross-filed complaints/lawsuits among the parties involved.

On March 24, 2022, she was arrested and charged by Ho Chi Minh City police under Article 331 of Vietnam's Criminal Code ("abusing democratic freedoms to infringe on the interests of the State and the lawful rights and interests of organizations and individuals"). On September 21, 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court sentenced her to three years in prison, along with four co-defendants. According to domestic press reports, she received a sentence reduction and was released early on September 19, 2024 for good behavior, subsequently returning to run the Đại Nam resort.
