Thủy Tiên, whose real name is Trần Thị Thủy Tiên, was born on 25 November 1985 in Rạch Giá, Kiên Giang province, into a family with a Kinh father and a Hoa mother. Her father died of tuberculosis when she was young. In 2003, she moved to Ho Chi Minh City to study vocal music at the Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts.
