Early Life
Thủy Tiên, born Trần Thị Thủy Tiên on November 25, 1985, in Rạch Giá, Kiên Giang province, is the daughter of a Kinh father and an ethnic Chinese (Hoa) mother. Her father died of tuberculosis when she was young. In 2003 she moved to Ho Chi Minh City to study vocal performance at the Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts.
Career
Thủy Tiên released her debut album "Ngọt và Đắng" in 2005, followed by the self-titled album "Thủy Tiên" (2006). Her breakthrough came with "Giấc mơ tuyết trắng," the theme song of the 2006 film "Tuyết nhiệt đới," which became her signature hit and earned her the nickname "Queen of Vietnamese Movie Soundtracks." Her albums "Giấc Mơ Tuyết Trắng" (2007) and "Ngôi Nhà Hạnh Phúc" (2009) rank among Vietnam's best-selling film soundtrack albums. She continued with dance-pop-oriented releases such as "Em đã quên" and "Vẫn mãi yêu anh" (2011), and appeared in films including "Nụ hôn thần chết" (2008) and "Đẹp từng centimet" (2009). She won four Làn Sóng Xanh (Blue Wave) Awards (2008–2011) and was honored at the WeChoice Awards 2020 in two categories: "Inspiring Personality" and "Outstanding Artist Activities."
Charity Work
Thủy Tiên is widely known for her fundraising campaign for victims of the catastrophic October 2020 central Vietnam floods. Over roughly 40 days of social-media appeals, she raised more than 177.5 billion Vietnamese đồng (approximately US$7.6 million at the time). Together with her husband, she personally traveled to flood-hit provinces (Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Huế, Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi) to distribute cash and supplies to more than 61,000 households, and funded flood-resistant housing and rescue boats. In 2021, amid public accusations questioning the transparency of the funds, she published detailed bank statements; in January 2022, Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security concluded she had committed no wrongdoing in the charity effort.
Personal Life
Thủy Tiên married former professional footballer Lê Công Vinh on December 27, 2014, after nearly six years together. The couple has one daughter, Lê Trần Diễm Quỳnh, born January 2, 2013.
