Part 1The three things that stand out most in your chart
You can run a whole operation from your head, yet the decision you keep circling is the one about your own pay. Your life path number is 11, which is a master number, meaning a number read as carrying a wider-than-usual reach.
For you that reach shows up as a habit of scanning every angle of a choice long after everyone else has left the room, and the answer is usually to pick one line and stay on it rather than to keep widening the view.
You are the person friends and family hand the practical problem to, and you take it without being asked. Your birthday number (the number of the birth day, about one particular gift) is 5, the number read as quick and changeable, so you adapt fast and dislike being pinned to one fixed way of doing things.
In daily life it looks like you reworking a system nobody complained about, because the old one had started to feel like a cage.
You keep your own books last, and that is not laziness. Your birth chart grid (the nine-cell grid holding the digits of the birth date) is missing the 8, the number tied to managing money and property, so the order-and-routine side of your own finances is built rather than inherited.
At home it shows up as tidy systems for everyone else and a shoebox of your own receipts you never get to, which is exactly the part worth tending deliberately.
Part 2The question you brought
What the books say
personally free, a traveler, a welcome companion, meeting life with open arms, ready to make unity with every experience that you meet as a means for higher unfoldment and expansion of yourself.[3]
When you can do this, it will show the kind of growth a 5 needs to make.[2]
Interpretation
Both paths are open to you; the real question is which one you can run for a year without straining home.
You said you have worked as an accountant at a small company for six years and are weighing a move to a larger firm or starting your own bookkeeping service, with a young child and a worry about unsteady income in the first year.
That worry is not nerves; it is the careful part of you reading the numbers before it reads the dream. Your life path is 11, a master number, and the way that number works is that the big decision tends to arrive before the ground under it feels solid.
The book What's in Your Name? describes the number 5 as personally free, a traveler, meeting life with open arms, and both your birthday number and your maturity number (the sum of the life path and expression numbers, about the later half of life) are 5.
Read that against your chart and you land on the moving side of it, not the settled side. So the question is not whether you can change; it is whether you can change without gambling the household.
Notice how the two options feel different in your body.
The larger firm offers a floor: a salary, a team, someone else carrying the payroll. Working for yourself offers something a floor cannot give, which is the freedom to shape the work your own way.
Your expression number is 3, and that is the number that says the work you are built for is work where you speak, explain, teach and persuade, not just reconcile. The book The Philosophy of Numbers says that when you can hold your own vibration steady, it will show the kind of growth a 5 needs to make.
In your case that growth is the ability to stay in one place long enough for the work to compound, which is exactly what six years at the small firm has already proven you can do. That is a real asset, and it travels with you into either door.
Here is the cost on each side, stated plainly.
If you go to the larger firm, you gain stability and you spend the thing you have the least of right now, which is room for your own voice in how the work is done. If you start your own service, you gain that room and you take on the full weight of the first lean months yourself.
Your birth chart grid has one 4, the number of routine and structure, and no 8 at all, the number of managing money. That combination means you can build a system, but you will not build it automatically; you have to decide it on purpose, in advance.
The pinnacle (the four long stages of life, each with its own number) you are in is an 8, and it runs to the end of this year, so the appetite for building something material is genuinely there. The challenge number of this same stretch is 2, which is about holding your ground in close relationships while you do it.
What you need to weigh is not which option is better in the abstract, but which one you can run for twelve months without breaking something at home. Nothing in your chart says you must leap; the 5 in you wants the whole journey at once, and the 4 in you needs a route map.
A middle road exists and it is not a compromise: keep a steady income while you build the client base on the side, then move when the base can carry part of the load. That is the honest reading of your chart, and the decision stays yours. What you are choosing is not a job; it is the pace at which you change your life.
What to do
- This Saturday morning, open a blank page and write the monthly income your household needs to cover everything, then write the lowest figure you could live on for twelve months. You tend to move on instinct and only do the numbers afterward; seeing both figures side by side will tell you how much room you actually have before you decide anything.
- On Tuesday evening, write down the names of five people or small businesses who could plausibly pay you for bookkeeping, and next to each one note how you would approach them. You are at your best when you are talking and explaining, and this list gives you five real conversations to start instead of one vague hope.
- This Sunday afternoon, sit down with the person you share your life with and agree on a monthly figure that the household can live on if your income dips. You can hold a question open for a long time without noticing, and hearing that number out loud settles the fear that keeps pulling you back from deciding.
Part 3Who you are
The first three come from your birth date; the rest from your name. 11, 22 and 33 are kept as they are, not reduced.
Arrows with all three numbers (solid): 1-2-3
Each cell shows how many times a digit appears in your birth date. Three cells in a line, all filled or all empty, form an arrow.
What the books say
A person whose key-note is 11 can never be properly labelled.[1]
A person with the key-note 8, understands the earth and the intellectual plane as no other does. They always make themselves powerful in the community.[1]
The mind begins to reach out for unseen things in this vibration.[1]
Interpretation
You think in layers and rarely fit anyone's label, and learning to commit to one clear line is the work of this chapter.
You have probably noticed that you rarely fit the box people put you in. At work you can hold the whole picture and the detail at once, and friends come to you for a read on a situation that nobody else seems to catch.
Your life path number is 11, and How to Attain Success Through the Strength of Vibration says a person whose key-note is 11 can never be properly labelled. That is not a compliment to sit on; it means the wide view is real, and the cost is that you can keep re-opening a decision long after it is made.
The fix is not to narrow who you are. It is to pick one line and stay on it long enough for it to pay off.
There is a second thing running underneath all this, and it shows up as restlessness. You like the idea of a new system, a new tool, a new way of doing the same task, and you are quick to try it.
Your birthday number is 5 and your maturity number is 5, and the same book says the mind begins to reach out for unseen things in this vibration. Read against your own life, that is your appetite for what is not yet in front of you.
It is a genuine strength. It only turns against you when the reaching becomes a reason to leave before anything has had time to settle.
People read you as more certain than you feel. In a meeting you sound decided, and at home you are the one who says the practical thing out loud, even when you are still uncertain inside.
Your attitude number (the number worked out from the birth day and month, about one's first response to something new) is 8, and the same book says a person with the key-note 8 understands the earth and the intellectual plane as no other does, and always makes themselves powerful in the community. That is the outer half of you, and it is real.
The inner half is the 11 that will not sit still. When those two are out of step, you come across as harder than you mean to be, and you feel more alone in a decision than you actually are.
One more layer is worth naming, because it explains a pattern you may have blamed yourself for.
You can see both sides of an argument so clearly that you sometimes switch sides halfway through a conversation, and you are slow to notice when someone is taking advantage of your good faith.
Your birth chart grid carries two 1s, with 3, 4, 2 and two 9s, and the arrow of the planner runs straight through 1-2-3; this is one branch's way of reading the grid, not the whole of the tradition.
The planner's arrow is about thinking ahead and organising, and the two 1s give you a balanced view of any situation.
The missing 6, 7 and 8 are simply faculties you build by hand rather than inherit, and the 6 is the one that matters here: it is the creative follow-through that turns a good plan into something finished.
What to do
- This Friday evening, write down the single line of work you want to be known for a year from now, in one sentence, and put it where you see it daily. You tend to hold several versions of yourself at once, and naming one out loud makes the choice feel real instead of theoretical.
- On Monday morning, before you open your inbox, spend ten minutes listing the three tasks you will finish this week and the day each one ends. You reach for the next new thing easily, and a short written finish line keeps you on the current one until it is done.
- At your next team meeting, state your view in the first two minutes and then stay quiet while others respond. You read a room well but you also drift toward whoever spoke last, and saying your position first keeps you from being pulled off it.
Part 4Work and career
What the books say
When vibrating in its true key, it is a beautiful, happy number.[2]
As beauty abounds so freely in this world, so we find the 3 a joyous and happy nature.[2]
Number 3 is that of expression, and the mission of a life whose destiny number is a 3 is to bring joy at all times to all people through that radiant power within its life.[4]
Interpretation
You are built for work where you explain, persuade and lead, not for a seat where you stay silent.
Six years in one seat, and the part of the job you actually enjoy is rarely the reconciliation itself. It is the moment you explain a set of figures to someone who was lost, and their face changes.
Your expression number is 3, and it points at the work you are built to do. The Philosophy of Numbers says of this number that when it vibrates in its true key it is a beautiful, happy number, and the reading it teaches is whether a person is running in that key or against it.
For you, working in that key means a role where explaining, presenting and reassuring are part of the job, not an interruption to it. Every year spent with that side switched off drains you a little more than it should.
You have probably felt the pull toward something bigger, or toward working for yourself, and then pulled back the moment you imagined the first lean months.
That pull is real and it is written into your chart: your life path is 11, a master number, and a master number tends to make a person want a wider canvas than the one they were handed.
The Philosophy of Numbers says the 3 only shines in its true key, and the honest reading here is that your chart has the reach but not the guarantee.
Nothing in it promises the first year will be smooth. It says the direction is right when the work lets you lead, teach or convince, and that the size of the step is yours to set.
The environment that suits you best has room for your voice and a rhythm you can keep.
You do well where you can improve how something is explained, where colleagues come to you for the version that finally makes sense, and where the output is visible at the end of the week. What wears you down is a place that only wants you to process quietly and never speak.
Your maturity number is 5, which describes the later stretch of your working life, and it leans toward variety and freedom rather than a fixed routine. The years ahead reward you for building freedom gradually, not for jumping and hoping.
What trips you up at work is rarely skill. It is the moment you stay quiet, or take on a task nobody asked you to own, and then resent the weight of it.
Your birthday number is 5, and it shows in how you want room to move and dislike being pinned down. Names, Dates, and Numbers says the mission of a life whose destiny number is a 3 is to bring joy to all people through the radiant power within it, and that not to express joy and activity is to fail the life's destiny.
Read plainly, that means a job that mutes you costs you more than a job that stretches you. Name the task you no longer want before you take on another.
What to do
- On Wednesday evening this week, write down the two parts of your job that use your voice and the two that do not. You tend to keep carrying things quietly, and naming one thing you will stop doing frees the hours you actually want.
- Before your next team meeting, send one short message offering to walk a colleague through a report you built, and set a fifteen-minute slot. You are good at making a complicated set of numbers make sense to people, and doing it on purpose turns that into the part of your work others rely on.
- On the first Monday of next month, block one hour and write what a wider role would need to include for you to say yes. You decide better when the shape of a bigger step is on paper, and it keeps you from grabbing the first offer that feels like relief.
Part 5Money
What the books say
Whenever you find this vibration in a name, it always wishes to express the vibration before or after it.[2]
Interpretation
Money comes to you in bursts, so what keeps you steady is a habit of setting some aside before you can spend it.
You can probably name a month when money arrived from an unexpected direction, and another stretch when the same effort brought nothing extra.
That uneven rhythm is typical of a birthday number 5. The older books describe this number as quick and changeable in every way, and modern reading agrees: you adapt fast when circumstances shift, which lets you catch chances other people walk past.
Being quick is not the problem. The problem is that quickness has no memory, so money that comes in fast also leaves fast unless something holds it.
You are careful with numbers at work, yet your own accounts may be the last ones you look at. Your birth chart grid carries only one 4, and none of the 8, and the 4 is the part of a chart that deals with order and routine while the 8 deals with managing money and property.
So you can build tidy systems for other people and still run your own household on feel. The old reading of a chart missing the 8 is plain about this: the wisdom and independence around money have to be built on purpose, they do not arrive by themselves.
That is not a flaw in you. It is simply a skill you were meant to learn deliberately.
There is a second thing worth naming, because it decides how much of what you earn you keep. Your expression number is 3, and The Philosophy of Numbers says that this vibration always wants to express the vibration next to it, so it reaches outward rather than sitting still.
In your case that reaching shows up as generosity, treating people, covering a round, saying yes to things that cost money and feel good in the moment. None of that is wrong. But an open hand and a closed drawer cannot both be true, so the money you keep is the money you decide about before the generous mood arrives.
The habits that suit you are small, automatic and boring on purpose. Your attitude number is 8, which is the part of you that others meet first, and it reads as capable and composed around money even when you feel unsure inside.
Use that: decide the amount you set aside on the day you are paid, before the rest is available to spend, and let the transfer happen without a conversation. You do not need a bigger income to feel steadier. You need the same decision repeated often enough that it stops being a decision.
One more thing, and it matters for the year ahead.
Your personal year for 2026 is 9, which is a year for finishing and clearing rather than starting, so this is a better stretch for tidying what already exists than for adding new commitments.
If you are weighing a change in how you earn, this section is not the place to settle it, but the money habit underneath that decision is the same one: keep the automatic set-aside running through any transition, because it is the one thing that does not depend on how the month goes.
What to do
- On the day your salary lands this month, move a fixed amount into a separate account before you pay anything else, and set the same transfer to repeat automatically. You decide well when the choice is made once and then out of your hands, so automating it removes the moment where the money is still available to spend.
- Each Sunday evening, open your banking app for ten minutes and write down what actually left the account that week, not what you meant to spend. You are quick to adapt and quick to move on, so a weekly look gives the fast part of you something to correct before a month of small leaks adds up.
- Before the next family gathering or night out, decide the amount you are willing to spend and take only that, leaving the rest where you cannot reach it easily. You are generous by nature and you like the moment of giving, so setting the limit beforehand lets you enjoy it without the bill arriving as a surprise later.
Part 6Love and marriage
Interpretation
You show love by building a life together, and the work is remembering to ask how the other person feels inside it.
You probably show love by handling things: the bills, the schedule, the plan for next year. It feels like care to you, and it usually reads as care to the person beside you, until the day it reads as control. In your chart the Soul Urge number is 8, which is what a person secretly needs in order to feel settled.
The common reading of an 8 Soul Urge is a strong wish for security, authority and a life you have real say in. So the wish underneath your affection is not romance for its own sake. It is a shared life that stands on solid ground, and you are willing to do the heavy lifting to get there.
There is a second thread, and it explains the arguments that seem to come from nowhere. You pick up on tone and mood quickly, but you often act on the first reading instead of checking it. Your birth chart grid holds a single 2, the number tied to how finely you sense other people.
The usual way of reading a single 2 is as real intuition that has not yet been steadied, so a sensitive read can turn into an unwise reaction. With your partner, that shows up as answering a look rather than a sentence. Naming what you sensed before you respond changes the whole exchange.
You are also carrying a long stretch of wanting the relationship to be substantial, not just pleasant. That is not a flaw, but it does mean ordinary contentment can feel like it is not enough. Your current pinnacle runs on the number 8, and the challenge number alongside it is 2.
The common reading of an 8 pinnacle is years spent building something with weight, while a 2 challenge asks you to keep the human side of it warm. So the risk is not that you love too little. It is that you pour yourself into the structure and forget to ask how the other person is actually doing inside it.
One gap is worth naming plainly, because it decides how much of this lands. You are not naturally wired to notice and tend to another person's daily needs, and you may assume that providing is the same as tending.
Your chart has no 6 at all, and the 6 is the number of care and nurture. The common reading of an absent 6 is that this has to be built on purpose rather than felt automatically.
Your 3 gives you the tool: you can put warmth into words. Say the caring thing out loud this week, even when it feels unnecessary. It is not unnecessary to the person hearing it.
What to do
- Before your next evening together, put your phone in another room for the first thirty minutes and ask one open question about how the week actually went. You read small shifts in mood quickly but often answer them silently, and a spoken question gives that quick reading somewhere to go.
- On Sunday morning, say one specific thing you appreciated that week, out loud, in a plain sentence. You are not built to notice daily needs automatically, so saying it on purpose is the part you have to practise rather than wait to feel.
- On Wednesday night, ask one question about a decision the two of you are facing and then stay quiet while the answer comes. You tend to arrive with the plan already settled, and leaving a gap lets the other person shape it before it hardens.
Part 7Family: parents, siblings, children
What the books say
successful wage-earner. This vibration makes the understanding of spiritual and inspirational subjects difficult and gives dislike of social trivialities.[3]
You are governed by your intellect and reason.[3]
You pay close attention to detail work in life and the working methods of the subjects and objects which you meet.[3]
Interpretation
Think of an ordinary evening at home.
You are the one who knows where the documents are, who remembers the renewal dates, who keeps the household moving without announcing it.
That is not a small thing, and it is not an accident of temperament.
Your personality number is 4, which is how the people closest to you tend to read you, and What's in Your Name? says of this number that it is a successful wage-earner whose vibration makes spiritual and inspirational subjects difficult and gives a dislike of social trivialities.
So the reading is accurate: you are seen as the practical one.
The same book adds that you are governed by your intellect and reason, which is exactly how your family experiences you. That is a real strength, and it also makes you hard to read.
Now think about the older generation in your life, and how you are with them. You probably handle their paperwork, their appointments, their logistics, and you feel most useful when you are doing rather than talking.
The quiet want underneath everything in your chart is the soul urge, and yours is 8. What's in Your Name? describes that number as competence in commercial or material problems, judgment, and control.
At home that shows up as a strong pull to be the child who has it handled. Being reliable is not the same as being close. You can carry the whole administrative load of a family and still leave both sides hungry for something simpler.
Siblings and the wider family have their own texture in your life. You are probably the one who organizes the gathering, remembers the birthdays, and then finds the actual time together slightly flat.
Your life path is 11, and the reading of that number leans toward a person who is here to lift others rather than manage them. That sits awkwardly with how you prefer to operate, because managing is easier for you than inspiring.
Around family this often looks like you doing the planning and nobody quite following. Letting someone else run one part of the logistics, even imperfectly, gives you room to be a person in the room rather than the staff.
With your child, or with any younger person you are guiding, the same pattern shows up in miniature. You spot the mistake before it happens, you correct the grip, you finish the sentence.
Your chart's fourth number, the personality number, is 4, and What's in Your Name? says of this number that you pay close attention to detail work in life and the working methods of the subjects and objects which you meet. At home that means you are always teaching, always adjusting, always improving the method.
A child reads that as standards rather than warmth. Saying one sentence about your own reaction, before you offer the correction, changes the temperature of the room.
What to do
- This Saturday morning, sit down with the person in your household who shares the practical load and write out who does what for the next month, then trade one item between you. You carry the household list in your head because it feels faster than explaining it, and saying it out loud once makes the sharing real.
- On Wednesday evening, call one relative without a task attached and let the conversation run ten minutes with nothing to arrange. You tend to reach out only when there is something to sort out, and a call with no purpose is what keeps the bond from turning into admin.
- This coming Sunday, when the child or younger person you guide is working on something, stay beside them and say nothing for the whole task, then name one thing you noticed. You see the flaw before they finish, and holding back that one time is what lets them own the result.
Part 8Where you are on the road
Ten years from the year of the reading
Each stage has a pinnacle number and a challenge number that goes with it. The filled box is the current stage. The table below lists ten years from the year of the reading: age, the personal year number of each year, and the stage it belongs to.
What the books say
Within him is the possibility of understanding and in a sudden emergency he can always rise to the occasion.[1]
2 has the mother nature and is intuitive.[1]
attract their own if they receive and follow the lead of other minds and from them select their ideals. They water and nourish the seed others plant, and they themselves usually reap the harvest.[1]
Interpretation
You are in the last year of one stretch, and the next one starts in 2027.
The stretch you are in
One year is left in the stretch you are in, and it is for finishing, not starting.
You have spent years building a base under your working life, most of it by staying put and doing the unglamorous part well.
The chapter you are in now runs to the end of 2026, so one year is left, and it is a pinnacle carrying the number 8.
In this kind of stretch the pressure lands on money, authority and how much responsibility you take on, and judgment gets tested more than skill does.
How to Attain Success Through the Strength of Vibration says of this number that within him is the possibility of understanding and in a sudden emergency he can always rise to the occasion.
Read against your chart, that fits: you are not someone who freezes when something goes wrong, and this stretch is where that shows.
The useful way to spend the year is to finish things rather than start them: close out what you have been carrying, put your own numbers in order, and let people see the weight you already handle.
The year 2026
2026 is a closing year: settle old business and clear space.
2026 is a personal year of 9, the closing year of the nine-year cycle, and it is the last year of this whole stretch. A closing year is for finishing, not for launching: it rewards you for settling old business, reviewing what you built, and clearing space so the next cycle starts light.
That is the side of 2026 worth using. Put your energy into closing what is unfinished at work and at home, and into the conversations you have been putting off. Hold back from signing onto something new and heavy in the final months; you will meet the same decision in 2027 with better footing.
The next two years: 2027 and 2028
2027 is for stepping forward, 2028 is for steadying it with help.
2027 opens as a personal year of 1, the first year of a new cycle and the first year of the next stretch. A one-year is for stepping forward, being visible, and putting your own name on what you do.
2028 follows as a personal year of 2, a slower year about cooperation, patience and other people. The same book says of the number 2 that it has the mother nature and is intuitive, and that such people attract their own if they receive and follow the lead of other minds and from them select their ideals.
Read against your chart, that means the second year asks you to listen and choose well rather than push. Spend 2027 on one clear commitment, and let 2028 be the year you steady it with help.
The next stretch
The next stretch starts in 2027, and the outer theme barely changes.
The stretch you are in ends with 2026, and the next one begins in 2027.
Both pinnacles carry the number 8, so the outer theme does not change: money, responsibility and standing still sit at the center. What changes is the challenge number running underneath, holding at 2 as the year turns, and the personal year shifting from closing to opening.
Prepare now by having your own records in a state you could show someone, and by knowing which single commitment you want 2027 to be about. The groundwork you lay in the last year of a closing cycle is what makes the first year of the next one move.
What to do
- Before the end of this month, list every open task you are still holding at work and mark the three that can be finished or handed over in 2026. You finish what you can see, and a closing year rewards you for clearing the shelf rather than adding to it.
Part 9Five things to do
Sit down with the person you share your life with and agree on one monthly figure the household could live on if your income dipped, then write it where you both can see it.
- Why
- Your Life Path number is 11 and your current challenge number is 2, so the fear of a wobbling income settles once a real number is said out loud rather than carried in your head. (see part 2: The question you brought)
- When
- This week, before you decide anything about the move.
- A sign you are on track
- You can say the monthly floor out loud without hedging, and you both agree it is the same figure.
Take the five names you listed and turn each one into a first contact: send the opening message, book the fifteen-minute call, and log the date you did it.
- Why
- Your Expression number is 3 and your Soul Urge number is 8, so work arrives once you are the one talking and explaining rather than waiting for it. (see part 2: The question you brought)
- When
- Over the next three weeks, one name at a time.
- A sign you are on track
- At least two of the five have replied, and every name on the list has a date next to it.
On the first Monday of next month, block one hour and write what a wider role would need to include for you to say yes, then send that page to one person who will ask you hard questions about it.
- Why
- Your attitude number is 8 and your birthday number is 5, so you decide better when the shape of a bigger step is on paper instead of taken as relief. (see part 4: Work and career)
- When
- Start this month and keep the page alive through 2027.
- A sign you are on track
- The page exists, one person has read it, and you can name the two conditions you will not trade away.
On Wednesday night, ask one question about a decision the two of you are facing and then stay quiet while the answer comes, without filling the gap with your own plan.
- Why
- Your current challenge number is 2, so you read small shifts in mood quickly but often arrive with the plan already settled, and leaving a gap lets the other person shape it before it hardens. (see part 6: Love and marriage)
- When
- Starting this week and kept up through the rest of 2026.
- A sign you are on track
- You have had four evenings where you asked, waited, and said back what you heard without moving to a solution.
This Saturday morning, sit down with whoever shares the practical load in your household, write out who does what for the next month, trade one item between you, and put the list on the fridge.
- Why
- Your Life Path number is 11, so you carry the household list in your head because explaining it feels slower, and saying it out loud once makes the sharing real. (see part 7: Family: parents, siblings, children)
- When
- This weekend, then reviewed at the start of each month through 2026.
- A sign you are on track
- The list is on the fridge, one item has changed hands, and neither of you has had to ask who is doing it.
This reading is one way of reading the chart by the books, together with a practitioner's explanation. It shows tendencies, not a guarantee of what will come. What you do day by day is what shapes the road. The decisions are yours.
Basis and sources
The calculation in this reading is nothing but addition. The day, month and year of birth are added up and reduced to a single digit; each letter of the full name is turned into a number from 1 to 9 and added up in the same way. Anyone who works it out with a pen gets exactly those numbers, with no need to take anyone's word. One thing must be said clearly: the letter-to-number table of this system was built for the 26 letters of English, like the nine-column table in the book by Mrs L. Dow Balliett (copyright 1905). Vietnamese has tone marks and letters such as ă, â, đ, ê, ô, ơ, ư, so the way Nhật Nguyệt turns a Vietnamese name into numbers is this tool's convention, not something the source books lay down.
The system that works from the name and the birth date took shape in the United States in the early 20th century: Balliett in Atlantic City (How to Attain Success Through the Strength of Vibration, copyright 1905; The Philosophy of Numbers, 1908), Luo Clement (1908), Cheasley (1916), Campbell (1931), Jordan (1936); the birth chart grid and the arrows come from the Australian line of books by Templeton, and the book by Phillips (1980) is the basis of the most widely read Vietnamese book. Those books say they teach what "Pythagoras taught", but that is a borrowed name. What is truly ancient is the Pythagoreans' idea that number is the principle of all things, as reported by Aristotle, and the practice of turning letters into numbers (gematria) among the Jews and the Greeks, down to Agrippa in 1533. The numbers used in this reading belong to the 20th century.
Numerology is not a science, and the tests that exist do not support using it to know anything in advance. Genovese (2017) worked out the birth-day numbers of 806 Nobel laureates: the distribution is no different from chance. Forer (1949) gave 39 students the same description of character, and 34 of them rated it 4 or 5 out of 5: a vague sentence is very easily felt to be true of oneself alone. This reading therefore keeps to each person's own numbers and does not promise that anything will happen. The right way to use it is as a set of questions, with a tradition of more than a hundred years, for looking at yourself again and arranging your affairs. The reader is the one who decides.

Terms of the craft used in this reading
- Life path: the number worked out from the full birth date, about a person's general direction.
- Master number: the numbers 11, 22 and 33, which some schools keep unreduced.
- Birthday number: the number of the birth day, about one particular gift.
- Birth chart grid: the nine-cell grid holding the digits of the birth date.
- Maturity number: the sum of the life path and expression numbers, about the later half of life.
- Expression number: the number worked out from every letter of the full name, about what one tends toward.
- Pinnacle: the four long stages of life, each with its own number.
- Challenge number: the number about the lesson that comes with each stage.
- Attitude number: the number worked out from the birth day and month, about one's first response to something new.
- Personal year: the number of a given year, worked out from the birth day, month and that year.
- Soul urge: the number worked out from the vowels of the name, about what one wants within.
- Personality number: the number worked out from the consonants of the name, about how others see one.
Where the schools read it differently
- There are two ways to add up the Life Path number (all digits straight, or day, month and year reduced first). They sometimes differ on whether to stop at 11, 22 or 33; this reading adds all digits straight.
- Whether 11, 22 and 33 are kept or reduced is a point on which authors disagree.
- The birth chart grid and its arrows belong to David Phillips's branch. That branch differs from the method used here in three ways: the Ruling Number runs only from 2 to 11 plus 22 (there is no 1, and 33 is not treated as a master number); name numbers are taken from the name in everyday use, not the full birth name; the ages of the peaks are counted differently and there are no challenge numbers.
- The system was built for the English alphabet. Vietnamese names are stripped of diacritics before being turned into numbers: that is this tool's convention, not something any source book states. Under the Chaldean system the same name gives different numbers.
