How are lunar age, Kim Lâu and the yearly star worked out?
Lunar age is the year in question minus the birth year, plus one. Kim Lâu is checked before a wedding or building a house: a lunar age that leaves 1, 3, 6 or 8 when divided by 9 is affected. The yearly star (Cửu Diệu) rotates with lunar age on a nine-year cycle, in different orders for men and women; which stars count as good or bad is a folk grouping.
