What is the Cung Phúc Đức?

In Tử Vi Đẩu Số (Vietnamese astrology), the 12 palaces on a chart represent different aspects of a person's life. The Cung Phúc Đức (also called Phúc, Đức) sits opposite the Cung Tài Bạch in the palace placement system, and is usually seen as the spiritual "backing", the foundation of blessings a person enjoys. Unlike the Cung Mệnh, which speaks about the self, personality and core fortunes, the Cung Phúc Đức leans toward:

The ancients had a saying, "Hữu phúc, vô phúc" (with blessings, without blessings); a chart with a good Cung Phúc Đức is usually considered "blessed", even if the other palaces are modest. Conversely, if the Cung Phúc Đức is bad, even a brilliant Mệnh can still bring a life of many ups and downs.

Position and role of the Cung Phúc Đức

On the chart, the Cung Phúc Đức always sits symmetrically opposite the Cung Tài Bạch across the vertical axis. Vũ Khúc - Phá Quân

• Phá Quân: Phúc Đức with Phá Quân usually belongs to a person whose life has many upheavals and who dislikes settling down. They may tear things down and rebuild them, but without restraint they easily lose wealth and diminish blessings.

Thiên Tướng - Thiên Lương

• Thiên Tướng: Governs blessings that come through the help of others; the person often meets benefactors and lives by principles. If Phúc Đức has Thiên Tướng, the person easily enjoys blessings from the support of friends and colleagues.
• Thiên Lương: A blessing star that dissolves disasters. A person with Thiên Lương in Phúc Đức usually has a kind heart and often helps others, thereby accumulating merit. If it meets Hóa Khoa, blessings grow further.

Thất Sát - Sát Phá Tham

• Thất Sát: Phúc Đức with Thất Sát usually belongs to a person destined to go through many hardships and trials before succeeding. Blessings do not come naturally but must be traded for.
• Sát Phá Tham (Thất Sát, Phá Quân, Tham Lang): If this combination gathers in Phúc Đức, life has many upheavals and easily meets gossip and disputes, but with additional good stars it can turn into an extraordinary career.

What is the role of the supporting stars and the peach-blossom stars?

How should the Cung Phúc Đức be interpreted?

Step 1: Determine the major star and its miếu/hãm position

First, look at which major star guards the Cung Phúc Đức. If the major star is in miếu địa or vượng địa, blessings are good. If in hãm địa, blessings are reduced.

Step 2: Look at the supporting stars, malefic stars and transformation stars

• Stars such as Tả Phù, Hữu Bật, Thiên Khôi, Thiên Việt, Văn Xương, Văn Khúc in Phúc Đức usually increase blessings and bring benefactors.
• Malefic stars such as Hỏa Tinh, Linh Tinh, Địa Không, Địa Kiếp, Kình Dương, Đà La, when met in Phúc Đức, cause unease, reduce blessings, and make disasters or unusual states of mind more likely.

Step 3: Analyse the interaction with the Cung Mệnh and Tài Bạch
