What is Dong Tu Trach?
Dong Tu Trach is one of the two major dwelling groups in Bat Trach feng shui, comprising four dwellings: Kham, Chan, Ly, Ton. This group is associated with people whose Kua number belongs to Dong Tu Menh, including Kham, Chan, Ly, Ton. The four favorable directions are North, East, Southeast, South, corresponding to four palaces: Sinh Khi, Thien Y, Dien Nien, Phuc Vi. Depending on each dwelling, each direction plays a different role.
Origin and theoretical basis
Dong Tu Trach belongs to the Bat Trach system, a feng shui school based on Cung Phi (also called Kua number). Cung Phi is calculated from the lunar birth year and gender of each person. From the Kua number, one determines whether their destiny belongs to Dong Tu Menh or Tay Tu Menh, then deduces the corresponding dwelling group. Bat Trach also divides the eight directions into four favorable and four unfavorable directions, each associated with a star palace.
The dwellings in Dong Tu Trach
The four dwellings in this group include:
- Kham dwelling: corresponds to the Kham trigram (Water), favorable directions include North (Phuc Vi), East (Thien Y), Southeast (Sinh Khi), South (Dien Nien).
- Chan dwelling: corresponds to the Chan trigram (Wood), favorable directions include North, East, Southeast, South, with corresponding palaces according to Bat Trach.
- Ly dwelling: corresponds to the Ly trigram (Fire), best direction is South (Phuc Vi), Southeast (Sinh Khi), East (Thien Y), North (Dien Nien).
- Ton dwelling: corresponds to the Ton trigram (Wood), favorable directions include North (Sinh Khi), East (Thien Y), South (Dien Nien), Southeast (Phuc Vi).
Practical application
When choosing a house or arranging space, one typically determines the homeowner's Kua number to know whether they belong to Dong Tu Menh or Tay Tu Menh. If belonging to Dong Tu Menh, prioritize directions in Dong Tu Trach for the main door, altar, kitchen, and bedroom. Conversely, avoid directions in Tay Tu Trach (West, Northwest, Southwest, Northeast) as they are considered unfavorable.
Distinction from Tay Tu Trach
Dong Tu Trach and Tay Tu Trach are two opposing groups in Bat Trach. Tay Tu Trach includes Can, Khon, Can, Doai, associated with Tay Tu Menh people, with favorable directions West, Northwest, Southwest, Northeast. Confusing the two groups can lead to choosing directions unsuitable for the homeowner's destiny.
