Quick answer

Why are there two Phật Đản dates, the 8th and the full moon of the fourth month?

The two dates come from two traditions. Before, Northern Buddhism (Vietnam, China, Korea, Japan) commemorated the day on the 8th day of the fourth lunar month. Southern Buddhism took the full moon day of the month of Vesak, that is the full moon of the fourth month, and treats it as the day of birth, enlightenment and entry into Nirvana. The agreed milestone of adopting the full moon day is recorded differently: Venerable Thích Trí Chơn says 1950, while VTC News records 1960 in Cambodia.
