According to legend, Bà Chúa Kho was a girl from Quả Cảm village (Bắc Ninh) during the Lý dynasty, renowned for her resourcefulness and talent. She was assigned to guard the national granary at Mount Kho during the resistance war against the Song invaders in 1077. She sacrificed her life while distributing rice to save the people and was conferred the title of Phúc Thần (Tutelary Deity) by the royal court; the people built a temple to worship her and honored her as 'Chủ khố linh từ' (the sacred shrine of the granary keeper).
