Quick answer

How was trấn yểm performed in old Vietnamese funerals?

According to Phan Kế Bính in Việt Nam phong tục, in the three days after burial, families often borrowed a ritual master to place charms at the grave, or used a white chicken or black dog to offer to the earth god, or used eels, carp, snails, or crow beaks to place charms, believing this would ward off evil spirits from disturbing the newly deceased. This is a record of customs in the Red River Delta in the early 20th century.
