Nguyên Thủ is when exactly one upper course overcomes its lower and no lower overcomes its upper, usually read as a matter starting from the active, superior side. Trùng Thẩm is when a lower course overcomes its upper, taken even if an upper overcomes a lower elsewhere, read as a matter starting from the dependent side. This is a classification by the direction of the overcoming relation, not an absolute judgment of good or bad.
