Quick answer

What is the difference between a daily horoscope and a birth chart reading?

A daily horoscope uses only the birth year, grouping everyone into 12 zodiac animal groups. A birth chart uses date, month, year, birth hour, and gender to construct a star map with 12 palaces and dozens of star positions. Therefore a birth chart has much higher detail, but is also more complex and time-consuming.
