Thiên Đức is set separately for each month, for example the Dần month takes the Đinh day and the Thìn month the Nhâm day; for the Mão, Ngọ, Dậu and Tý months the Hiệp kỷ biện phương thư gives only a direction (the trigrams Khôn, Càn, Cấn, Tốn), not a day. Nguyệt Đức is calculated by the tam hợp of the month, for example the Dần, Ngọ and Tuất months all take the Bính day. Both are auspicious stars but their starting calculations differ, and a day may have both or only one.
