Quick answer

Why does Sa Đéc flower village grow flowers on tall trellises?

Growing on tall trellises is a creation of Sa Đéc farmers to adapt to low-lying terrain that is regularly affected by tidal surges and floods from the Tiền River. The trellis keeps the plants airy, prevents root rot and avoids soil-borne pests and diseases. At first the trellises were made of bamboo and rattan, the pots were woven from bamboo and lined with water coconut leaves, and rotted straw was used as the growing medium; today they have been replaced by iron frames and sturdy plastic pipes.
