Dong Ho paintings stand out for their technique of printing entirely from hand-carved woodblocks, using colours made from natural materials (indigo leaves, red ochre pebbles, sophora flowers, scallop shell powder, bamboo leaf ash) and printing on do paper coated with diep. The printing process follows the principle that red is printed first and the black outline block is printed last, creating paintings that are rustic, familiar and highly colourfast.
